Importance of Sensory Rooms
The human body receives sensory information through its five major senses i.e. Taste, Touch, Smell, Hearing and Sight. Naturally these senses are responsible for receiving sensory stimuli. These sensory stimuli then elicit a response from the person. This happens because of the connection between the senses and the human brain. This is called sensory integration. Sensory integration happens naturally for most people however for people with developmental disorders, responding to these stimuli may not be a comfortable experience.
The responses can go both ways. In some cases the person may not even respond to sensory stimuli and in other cases, the response may be too extreme. These negative and imbalanced responses can cause a lot of problems for the person. There are many different ways to help such people normalize their response to external sensory stimuli. What Are Sensory Rooms
Sensory rooms are specialized places or rooms that are designed to stimulate a balanced response to external sensory stimuli.
